39th Inter House Athletics Meet

On January 28th, Sishya organized the annual Sports Day for the year 2023. The event that brought together students, teachers, and parents for a day filled with athletic competitions, teamwork, and camaraderie. The event which was back on campus after a hiatus of two years of the pandemic showcased the importance of sportsmanship and healthy competition among our school community.

All the four School Houses competed with one another in a fierce but friendly manner for the coveted Sports Shield and March Past Shield. Everyone from the teachers to students worked hard to make this meet a grand success. Students eagerly participated in varied events. However, the athletic fever began to pervade the campus well before the actual day, with athletes practicing hard every day since the day school reopened.

The meet began with the Chief Guest Mr. Muneer Sait , Olympian, Indian Hockey Team 1968, being welcomed by the Board of Trustees. This was followed by the march past of the athletes led by Adi Ramanlal, the Head Boy and Tia Thadani, the Head Girl, and by Yahvi Mutha and Daksh Nahar, the Games Captains. They were followed by the four houses, led by their House Captains and the School Band. The senior contingents were followed by their junior counterparts. The school ground was decked in the house colors of yellow, blue, red and green. The eye-catching decorations at the house tents brightened the field.

Once the four houses congregated at the center of the field, the school flag was hoisted, the games torch was lit, and the Chief Guest declared the meet open.

Following this, the House Captains took an oath of sportsmanship in a solemn ceremony. Students of Classes 6 to 8 and 12 took to the field to perform the drill that left the audience spellbound. The athletic events began with the 100m dash for boys and girls of all the divisions, the 200m race for the A division and the 400m race for the B division. The athletes gave their best in these races, showing true skill, grit and determination. These were followed by the Shuttle Relay and the widely anticipated Mixed Relay, both of which drew much cheering from the crowd. There was also a race for the parents which was followed by a baton relay between the Sishya athletes and the Sishya Alumni which was won by the present students despite the gallant efforts of the champions of yesteryears.

At the end of all the events, Godavari house emerged as the winners followed by Sutlej, Cauvery and Narmada. Sutlej won the Marching Shield for Senior boys and girls. Cauvery won the Discipline and Decoration shield, Drill Shield as well as the Junior Marching Cup.

The awards were distributed during the closing ceremony with the houses marching in order of victory. The school rose as the band performed “Abide With Me” and “Drummers delight”.

As the meet came to an end with a fantastic and elaborate display of fireworks, in honor of Sishya celebrating its 50th year. All participants were left with a sense of pride at their efforts over the past few weeks; all those present had already begun to look forward to next year’s edition.
