The Eleventh Annual Sishya Model United Nations Conference, also known as SISHMUN, was held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of October 2017. Over 800 delegates participated in the conference from 33 local, national and international schools, which included the members of the Executive Board, the Secretariat, administrative Staff, World Press and World Media.
A Pre-Conference session was organized on Monday, 2nd October to get the delegates familiarized with the agendas. The inauguration was held on Tuesday, October 3, at 9 am at the Sishya Auditorium. The Chief Guest for the programme, Mr Bharat Joshi, The Deputy High Commissioner for the United Kingdom to South India addressed the gathering and spoke on diplomacy in today’s world. Two traditional dances were performed by the students of Sishya, celebrating the various cultures and traditions of India.
Sishmun involved 3 days of intense debate in a bid to find solutions that plague the world today. There were also two guest speeches, which educated the students on various events and issues. Mr. Rajiv Rajendra, a U.N. Speaker, educated students on both the working of the UN and on women’s rights. Two youngsters from Intermind Global, an organisation that trains students on MUN’s, also spoke on the significance of the agenda and the best way to approach the same. The delegates were brilliantly prepared in terms of their agendas and were extremely meticulous with their procedure. The solutions they came up with were splendid and very practical. The conference gave the delegates an opportunity to express their emotions and ideas and they used this to their fullest potential.
The closing ceremony was held on the 4th of October. The delegates were awarded for the skill and diplomacy they exhibited in debate. The Best Outstation School award was won by The Gateway College, Colombo and the Best delegation award was won by the delegation of Russia from Chettinad Vidhyashram.
