The Ninth Annual Sishya Model United Nations Conference, also known as SISHMUN, was held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of October 2015. More than 600 delegates from 32 schools attended the conference, which included schools from Vishakapatanam, New Delhi and Bangalore.
The opening ceremony of the conference was held on the 5th of October, after the successful committee meetings on the first day of SISHMUN. The Chief Guest was Dr Yashwanth Kumar Venkataraman, the Honourable Consul General of the Republic of El Salvador. The Keynote Speaker was Mrs. Usha Thorat, former Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India and Senior Advocate Mrs. Geetha Ramaseshan was the Guest of Honour.
Each committee had delegates engaging in thought-provoking arguments and bringing up new, innovative ideas. The agenda of each committee was discussed daily and on the second day, three committees joined together to form the General Assembly. Delegates brought up valid arguments, though some of the notes passed among them were a great source of amusement to the Executive Board.
Sishmun involved 3 days of intense debate in a bid to find solutions that plague the world today. The delegates were brilliantly prepared in terms of their agendas and were extremely meticulous with their procedure. The solutions they came up with, were splendid and very practical. The conference gave the delegates an opportunity to express their emotions and ideas and they used this to their fullest potential
The closing ceremony commenced and after the Vote of Thanks and the Secretary General’s speech, the highly anticipated awards ceremony began. Chettinad Vidyashram won the award for the best local school and also the award for the Best Delegation (Russia). With that, SISHMUN 2015 came to an end, after a successful three days.
