Senior School Day 2014

The Annual Senior School Day programme was held on the 1st of September. The Chief Guest this year was Mr. R. Srinivasan, the Managing Director of Redington, (India). The Class 10 ICSE students began the programme with an invocation. This was followed by the emotional ‘Adieu’, three farewell songs rendered by the ISC Class of 2014 as part of their last School Day programme.

Dr. Salim Thomas gave the Welcome Address and introduced the Chief Guest. Mrs. Omana Thomas presented the Principal’s Report, highlighting the achievements of the school and the students in the past year.

The toppers of the ICSE and ISC 2013 Board Exams were awarded prizes for their outstanding results after which the Chief Guest addressed the gathering.

This year is very special to the staff and students of Sishya as it is the Birth Centenary of our founder, Mr. K.I. Thomas. Senior school usually stages a play, but this time, excerpts from 8 different plays that were done over the past many years was presented. First up were two songs – “Why can’t the English?” and “Wouldn’t it be loverly” from the play, ‘My Fair Lady’ which was originally staged in 1991. Next up was “Getting to know you” and “Shall we dance”, from ‘The King and I’, which was presented in 1997. “Matchmaker, matchmaker” and “To life” were the songs done from ‘Fiddler on the roof’ staged in 2004. From ‘The Sound of Music’ staged in 2005, three songs were done – “Do-re-mi”, “Edelweiss” and “So long, farewell”. ‘Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat’ was originally presented in 2008 and from this play two songs were performed – ‘Coat of many colours’ and ‘Pharaoh’s song’. In 2010, ‘The Lion King’ was staged and “The Circle of Life” from the original play was performed. From ‘Oliver Twist’ staged in 2011, three songs were done – “Pick a pocket or two”, “I’ll do anything” and “Oom pah pah” and finally from ‘Mary Poppins’ staged in 2013, two songs – “Jolly Holiday” and “Supercaliflagilisticexpialidocious” were performed. The ever popular songs were enjoyed by one and all. The excerpts was successfully staged and made for a very enjoyable evening.
