Senior School Day 2012

The Annual Senior School Day programme was held on the 31st of August. The Chief Guest this year was Mr. Dennis Lillee. The Class 10 ICSE students began the programme with an invocation. This was followed by the emotional ‘Adieu’, four farewell songs rendered by the Class of 2012 as part of their last School Day programme.

Dr. Salim Thomas gave the Welcome Address and introduced the Chief Guest. Mrs. Omana Thomas presented the Principal’s Report, highlighting the achievements of the school and the students in the past year. The toppers of the ICSE and ISC 2011 Board Exams were awarded prizes for their outstanding results in their subjects after which the Chief Guest addressed the gathering.

The school play featured this year was a dance drama depicting the life of the spiritual leader – Gautama Buddha. The drama began with the aftermath of the Kalinga War and shows how King Ashoka is grief stricken on hearing the story of the Buddha. It was prophesied by the sages that the child Buddha would grow up to be either a great emperor or a guiding spiritual leader. His father, the King did all in his power to see that the child was brought up without having to face or see any misfortune. But this was not to be. After the three sights of human tragedy, Gautama decided that he must find a path that will deliver all people from suffering. On the path to enlightenment, Gautama faces many problems right from being attacked by evil spirits to an assassination attempt. But Gautama rises above all this as Buddha enlightened. Ashoka inspired by the story of a great leader, follows in his footsteps.
This dance-drama enacted by the students was an enthralling journey through the life of Buddha and made for a very enjoyable evening.
