Kiddies
Meet 2011, was an explosion of colour.
The theme was
Indian and the mascot was the peacock!
The Meet started
promptly at 8.00 a.m. as soon as the Chief Guest, Mrs.
Meghna Prasad the P.T.A President, was escorted in.
The band led the march past, starting with Class 2,
followed by Class 1, U.K.G and then L.K.G. The parents
were thrilled to see the kiddies marching with determination
writ large on their faces ….. never mind that
the marching turned into goose-stepping at times, slow
marching sometimes and finally dwindled into a casual
stroll of the Kindergartners. When the children assembled
before the audience, the Chief Guest declared the meet
open and the kids gazed skyward, open mouthed to watch
the balloons fly across the sky. They then moved in
a well co-ordinated manner to their various positions
for their respective drills.
“Shuba
swagatham” was the first item – a yoga display
by the students of Class 2. Each move and position was
orchestrated with just a drum beat and the 8 synchronized
asanas had to be seen to be believed. The L.K.G children
made their appearance midway and performed a set of
simple hand-clapping steps, reminiscent of the traditional
‘Kummi’, to the tune of ‘Raghaventra…Gopala…’.
U.K.G and Class
1 performed an inter-woven item called “thakka
dimmi tha”. Class 1 handled the Kolattam in circles
very confidently to the Veena music of Chitti Babu.
U.K.G continued with the ‘jaalra’ and then
combined with the kolattam, before the two circles arranged
themselves around the peacocks that danced the finale!
Truly spectacular!
The races followed
with the desi theme and Indian music to cheer the kiddies
on. L.K.G girls did the ‘Matka Jhatka’ and
the boys, the ‘Balwan race’ with the girls
having to pick up a pot and the boys a mace and run
to the finish line. U.K.G girls in ‘Little Miss
Chennai’ dressed themselves in a skirt and a string
of mallippoo for their hair and the boys in ‘Master
Blaster’ dashed across to pick up their bats with
which they hit a sixer, Tendulkar –style and then
romped home.
The gunny-bunnies
of Class 1 went for the traditional sack race. The colourfully
decorated sacks added a sparkle to the race.
Class 2 had the
shuttle relay with a difference – the flag relay.
Each team ran with a flag depicting our national symbols,
like the tiger, lotus, mango and of course the peacock.
Hats off to the kids who put their best foot forward!
