SISHYAMRITA

Sishya held its annual Inter School Cultural event, Sishyamrita on the 13th and 14th of July. It is traditionally organized by the students of Class 12. This year under the leadership of Sahaana Sankar, the Cultural Secretary and with guidance from the teachers, 19 schools competed for the overall trophy, participating in a variety of events over the two day period. The events tested the participants’ aesthetic sensibilities with rangoli, face painting and collage, their creativity with Adzap, Shipwreck, Mono Acting and Street Theatre; and their musical and dancing abilities with the Western and Indian Music and Folk Dance competitions.

The schools enjoyed themselves thoroughly in the atmosphere of friendly rivalry, cheering loudly for their participants throughout the events.

After two days of frenzied competition, St. Michaels’ emerged the clear winner of the Sishyamrita Overall trophy. Lady Andal took second place and there was a tie between Rosary Matriculation School and Don Bosco School for the third place.

It was two days of relaxed fun and frenzied activity. Students of 11 and 12 were a happy lot at the end as their hours of planning and hard work won them friends and appreciation.

The 7 Committees were The Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Disarmament Committee, Economic and Financial Committee, Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee, Human Rights Commission and Environment Commission. Some of the debates were heated and caucuses were formed. At the end of each day, resolutions were passed and a newsletter was printed with photographs by the student members of the World Press. The final day saw a General Assembly presided over by the Secretary General. As one of the students said, “The event broadens your perspective and offers a great learning experience”.
