As one-year-old
Appu sat on the shoulders of 7 year old Shahul Hamid
of Class II and snatched a cookie, all the kids in ‘Apple
tree farm’ at the coolurful ‘Sishya Fete
2008’ burst into laughter. Appu the parrot, was
one among the factors of great amusement for the thousands
of kids who had fun on Saturday the 4th of July, at
Sishya, Adyar.
‘Apple Tree Farm’ of Class III C took the
kids to an exotic realm of pets. Once a kid entered
the stall the playful nature reached a new high. Children
were greeted by the melodious song of colourful budgerigars
and high pitched calls of Cockatiels and their body
language displayed excitement to the core. The Persian
cats, dogs, New Zealand Rabbits, Guinea fouls, geese,
Japanese Silky hen, African love birds and Cochin Bantam
were some of the pets at the stall.

‘Sishya Fete 2008’ was organized by the Parents
and Teachers Association of Sishya. A parent said, “We
are planning to use a chunk of the money the school makes
in ‘Sishya Fete 2008’, towards charity”.
The bouncing castle, face painting and tattoo, feed the
joker, 3-D movie magic, fashion booth, know your fortune,
nail art, treasure hunt and snap shorts were some of the
stalls that enthralled the kids. A wide range of delicacies
– fresh baked Australian cookies, hot juicy corns,
roller ice, choco fudge, pani puri, chocolate dosai and
burgers – made the children throng the food stalls.
Grand
Raffle prizes of the fete included tickets to Colombo,
return tickets for two to Goa, and stay at Zest Club
Mahindra.
“It is an evening of fun
for the children, our system of stalls and games energise
the children, parents and the teachers,” said
the Principal of Sishya, Mrs. Omana Thomas.
The Sishya fete makes the children
feel rejuvenated, added Vice-Principal, T. Rajendran.
“The Sishya fete is getting
more and more popular,” said Viji Shivaram,
a teacher.
“Amusements like this
will help the students relax amid a tight schedule
of studies,” said a parent.
