Overnight
Camp 2011
The Sishya compound
wore a festive look with colourful tents on one side,
a bonfire blazing on the other and children all over
the place.
Overnight camp
this year, held on the 12th of March was an exciting
and fun-filled experience. There were lots of games
lined up for the students and it was heartening to see
the teachers also enthusiastically participating in
them. In the evening, there was a bonfire, karaoke and
tombola, where everyone enjoyed themselves. Finally,
after a delicious dinner, two movies, loud music and
hardly any sleep, Sishyites went home in the morning
with the memories to last a life time. |

INDEPENDENCE
DAY CELEBRATIONS
Independence Day
was celebrated with great fervour in school on the morning
of August 15th. Our trustee, Mrs. Lily Thomas was the
Chief Guest and hoisted the National Flag. Vinita Govindarajan,
the Cultural Secretary, then gave an inspiring speech
on India’s freedom. This was followed by a cultural
programme – a very colourful variety of song and
dance. |

SCHOOL
EXCURSION- STD.12
The Class 12 students went to Ooty and Masinagudi from
the 13th to 17th of September for our excursion.
We had to revise
our original plan of having four days to enjoy the sights
and sounds of these places as our onward journey was
delayed for seven hours owing to an accident. We finally
reached Coimbatore twenty three hours after we had left
Chennai.
We stayed in Aloft
hotels for the night and departed the next day for Destiny
Farm in Masinagudi where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
in activities like fishing, horse riding and valley
crossing. The weather was extremely cold and wet and
the journey to Ooty the next morning, long. We reached
our hotels, Zest Casa for the girls and Jungle Hut for
the boys, late in the evening. There was just enough
time for a jungle safari on the last day before we departed
again for Chennai.

SCHOOL
EXCURSION- STD. 11
All of us were
bubbling with excitement on the 14th of September, the
day we were scheduled to leave for our excursion to
Wayanad. Our train was delayed because of a train accident
which had occurred the previous day. At around 2:30
pm the next day, we reached Kozhikode Station and then
after a long climb of about 3 hours by bus, we reached
Green Gates Hotel in Wayanad. We were soon informed
that that night would be the ‘formal night’
which is also often referred to as the ‘social
night’. It was nothing less than amazing. All
of us went completely berserk as we danced to loud music.
The next morning
after assembling for breakfast by 8:00 pm all of us
proceeded towards Edakkal Caves. It was absolutely magnificent.
There were also a lot of interesting scripts inside
the caves, on the walls. This was reminiscent of many
of our history classes. After the long trek we were
ravenous. After lunch and a few minutes of lazing around,
we were taken to the picturesque Pookat Lake. The scene
was nothing less than absolutely gorgeous. All of us
went boating, one full round on the lake. The next day,
we went trekking again, this time to see the unblemished
Soochipara falls. It was a downhill trek at first, which
made this part of the trek much easier than the second.
Once we reached the falls, we dipped our feet in the
chilly water.
The journey down from Wayanad, took about 3 hours. At
the station, we waited an hour to entrain. We had to
board the train quickly as it stopped in Kozhikode for
only a few minutes. Morning came quickly, and so did
Chennai. There were mixed feelings, happy ones, which
included the welcoming glow of a familiar place and
of a welcoming home and unhappy ones which included
the fact that the much awaited excursion was over, and
so were the few days of adventure.

SCHOOL
EXCURSION- STD. 10
The students of
Class 10 went for an excursion to Kodaikanal from the
14th to the 17th of September. We boarded our train
from Egmore station and reached Dindigal the next morning
at 4.00 am to hop on to a bus that would take us to
the hotel. After breakfast, we went sight-seeing and
did a bit of shopping.
Formal night was
scheduled for our first night at Kodaikanal. The next
morning, we spent the day around the lake that Kodaikanal
is famous for. We went cycling and horse-riding around
the lake, observing nature at its best.
A trek was scheduled
for the next day, where we took a walk on the wild side,
visiting Suicide Point and Coaker’s Walk, deep
in the heart of nature. It was a cold morning and a
few of us stopped at a small wayside shack for some
hot tea. At the end of the trekking path was Echo Rock,
where, as the name suggests, echoes could be heard if
something was said. That evening, we had a bonfire organized
for us at the Kodaikanal Club.
Over the next
couple of days, we did more sight-seeing, stopped at
a waterfall and shopped a little more. We even went
to a little Turkish restaurant and to a bakery. The
last day finally and reluctantly arrived. Packing up
and taking last minute looks round our hotel rooms to
make sure we hadn’t left anything behind, we started
to wonder how those four days went by so quickly. But
it did not matter how long or short our excursion was,
for those were the best four days of this year. |

SCHOOL
EXCURSION- STD. 9
From September 14th to 17th,
2011, the students of Class 9 went for their very
first school excursion to Coorg. September 14th was
a Wednesday and yes, we had school that day. How did
we get through the day? We have no idea! We boarded
our train from Central Station at 9.30 p.m. and the
journey to Coorg was so long, but good fun. We reached
Mysore station at around 8.30 on Thursday morning,
took two buses and went straight to Sree Guru Residency
for breakfast.
After breakfast, on our way
to the hotel, we stopped to see a Tibetan monastery.
The temple was so bright and colourful! Once we saw
the temple, we headed straight for our hotel –
Kodagu Valley Resort, Club Mahindra.
The next day, Friday, we went
to Abbey Falls. From the parking lot, we had to walk
down to the falls which roughly took us about 30 minutes.
The falls, in the midst of the greenery was beautiful.
We went back to the resort for lunch and that evening
the girls went shopping while the boys played football.
Within no time, it was Saturday,
the day we were leaving back for Chennai We headed
to the station and by 2.30 the train left and we were
on our way back home. We reached Central Station on
the 17th at 9.30 p.m. Our excursion was incredible,
short, but full of fun! We had an amazing time. Laughs
shared? Unaccountable. Memories collected? Loads!
Worth going for again? Definitely. Excursion 2011?
EPIC!!!.
