CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENTS
At the John K John Inter School Oratorical Competition conducted by Union Christian Matriculation School, Neha Mathen of Class 11 won the First Prize and was awarded the rolling trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1500/-
The Online Elimination Test (OET) in the British Council Institute of Ideas and Pfizer Debating Matters India Competition saw 6 of our students- namely; Nishant Saldanha, Bhaktimayi Nair, Arnav Rao, Neha Mathen, Sarah Iype and Anita Srinivasan of Class 11 win the First Place and move on to the Regional Elimination Round where they lost to Bala Vidya Mandir.
Neha Mathen won the Second place in the Elocution and Best Speaker of the Year Award in the Horlicks Wizkid Competition which saw the participation of more than 50 schools. At the same event, Nupur Sridhar and Amala Aiana won the First Place and Deepti Ramakrishnan and Tara Maria George the Third Place for Collage.
At the Australian National Chemistry Quiz held last September, 43 of our students participated. 16 of them achieved a High Distinction, 11 students got Distinction and 10 received Credit Certificates. Three of our students, Roshail Gerard, Rohan Verghese and Nivetha Nagarajan did exceptionally well and were awarded certificates and a gift.
7 of our students, Arnav Rao, Ashwin George Varghese, Bhaktimayi Nair, Neha Mathen, Divesh Thomas, Tarun Mathew Verghis and Akshita Rattha took part in the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) 2009 held in Washington D.C. and New Yorkfrom the 14th to the 25th of June 2009. The theme of GYLC was “The Leaders of Tomorrow Preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future”. The students had to interact with key leaders and newsmakers with powerful influence over politics, finance, culture and diplomacy.
Students from Classes 9, 11 and 12 took part in SANMUN – The Sankara Model United Nations Conference held at Sri Sankara Higher Secondary School, Adyar from the 8h to 10th of August 2009. 12 schools participated in all. The Best Delegation Award went to the Delegation of Croatia represented by Madhav Kannan, Pranchu Maheshwari, Jacob Alappatt, Karan Sood and Ayush Damani. Arnav Rao, Bhaktimayi Nair, Leela Senthil Nathan, Nishant Saldanha and Nishant Srikanth got the Best Delegate Award for their respective committees. Special Mention was made for Pranshu Maheshwari, Anita Srinivasan and Neha Mathen for their performance and contribution.
 
SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS

Golf
Shivnaren Srininvasan of Class 8 is a very promising golfer having represented India in the U.S. Kids World Junior Championship in the U.S.A. He has won many tournaments and is presently ranked No. 43 in the World Circuit and No. 1 in the South Zone for the 11-12 age group.

Aeromodelling
Venkatesh Sai of Class X, won the Falcon Aeromodelling Competition at Asia’s largest Science and Technology Festival at IIT Mumbai Techfest 2009. He was the only school student at the event. Venkatesh scored 204 points in his first run with his ingenious and inexpensive glider – Mr. MOSS (Motorized Slope Stick).
Table tennis
Sudershan Srikant of Class 11 is a very keen Table Tennis play who is currently ranked No. 2 in the State for the Under 18 category. At the National Level he is ranked No.6 in the under 17 years category.
Badminton
M. Roshini of Class 8 is a very promising young badminton player. At the National level she is in the top 20 in the Under 16 category. At the State level in the Under 16 category she is ranked No.1 for doubles and No.2 in the Singles.
Squash
Brothers, Ramit Tandon of Class 11 and Rishi Tandon of Class 9 have done Sishya proud at many a squash tournament. Ramit represented India at the Qatar Jumior Squash Championship in the Under 19 categor and the Malaysian Junior Open in the Under 17 category and placed second in both events. At the Dutch Junior Open for under 17 category he placed 9th. On the other hand, Rishi Tandon of Class 9, was Runner up at the Malaysian Open and the German (Pioneer) Junior Open in the Under 15 category and is currently seeded No. 3 in the under 15 category at the National Level.
Tennis
Kavya Bharat of Class 8 is a promising tennis player who has represented the State at many tournaments. At the Asian Tennis Ranking Tournament in the Under 14 category in which 32 students took part, Kavya got the 8th place. She was also awarded the President’s Award, given by the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association for the most promising player in 2008.
Swimming
Anuta Mukherjee of Class X is a promising swimmer. She has represented the State at various meets and has won many laurels to her credit. She has been selected for the National team in the 100m. & 200m. Backstroke in the Girls Group 1 category.
